Alexis Grant's landscapes apply the tradition of plain air and studio landscape painting to her images of contemporary urban surroundings. Grant's work brings attention to unnoticed elements of the Bay View, and other Bay Area neighborhoods. In the work, images of graffiti, cars, scavenger recycling trucks, and community gardens are reconfigured within a genre usually concerned with scenes of the pastoral.

The paintings have both a deep sense of place and uncanny sense of elements out of place. The effect is bright, lush and contemporary.
